My Photographer & I: How to Take Your Business to the Web

The place I take photographs in Kano is at GoClick Images.

I liked them for their attention to detail in editing picture and how they guided my pose and the rest.

But the distance between where I live and #Yankaba, their office is too much that I haven’t been able to go to take new pics.

So, one day I wanted to take proper pics with my new hairstyle but didn’t want to go that distance, so I walked into a studio inside Bayero University, Kano for a snapshot.

When they gave me my pics, I liked it and liked my new hairstyle even more.

Then I came again for another shot and the Oga was around this time. When I saw his sample Wedding Album filled with confam pictures, we got talking.

“Do you have a website where you display your work?”



“The cost of maintaining it yearly.”

“Does it cost more than 7k yearly for your domain and hosting renewal?”

“7k is a lot of money o…”

“And what about what it will bring you when someone sees your work, gets convinced you can deliver what they want and calls you for a job?”

“But nobody will see the website unless they know me or without my telling them about it.”

“Ahhh!?” I exclaimed.

From that I realized that my guy knows the value of a website, or at least have an idea; but believes that since people won’t find him on the website, there was no need to get one.

At that point, I gave him a summarised lecture on how to make his website known by those who don’t know him.

He smiled and said, “I am using my Social Media for now.”

At that moment, my pictures were ready and collected it and left.

As I walked to the bus stop, I was thinking about him and those who harbour such myth about websites in their minds.

An advantage this serves is that it lets people who are searching for your kind of business to find you on search engines.

There are many business listing companies you can use; you can google it to find out some that will serve you well.

But the one I strongly recommend is Google MyBusiness.

The good thing about google MyBusiness listing is that aside the fact that it puts your business on the web, it displays your business details and office on search results in a way that one cannot miss it.

With that, anyone searching can easily see your address, phone number, opening & closing hour and YOUR WEBSITE.

They don’t need to know you before they can find you, they just need to be searching for your kind of business in the location you choose and that’s all.

As an example, type on google search, “HR Consulting in Kano.” Or if you are in Kano, type “Hr Consulting Near me”

You will see two businesses and one of them is Brojid World with an information panel that shows some info and contact details for Brojid World.

So, when you list your business and choose the category of your business people can easily find you and when they search your name directly, they can see an information pan that leads them to your website to see more about you, your jobs, testimonials from clients, your business philosophy and sample jobs.

They will also find your phone number to call you for the kind of photography solution they need, as an example, or the direction to your office for a studio shot.
